FAQ

Below are answers to questions relating to polypropylene fibres and their properties.

Do BELMIX fibres reduce the number of plastic shrinkage cracks in concrete?

Yes, the inclusion of our fibres in the concrete will increase the tensile strain capacity of the concrete in the concrete’s plastic state and it will therefore reduce the risk of plastic shrinkage cracks

Do BELMIX fibres reduce plastic settlement cracking

Yes, the inclusion of our fibres makes the concrete more cohesive and also reduces the number of bleed channels within the matrix, thus helping to reduce both bleed in the concrete and plastic settlement

Due to the above two mechanisms, concrete containing our fibres will be more impermeable to ingress from aqueous solutions.

Do BELMIX fibres affect abrasion resistance?

Yes, the fibre improves abrasion resistance of the concrete and this is a result of the reduced bleed characteristics of fibre-enhanced concrete. Due to less settlement the surface contains less of the weaker fine sand. Therefore, abrasion resistance is increased.
