The main cause of pavement and road damage is contamination of the aggregate base and the resulting loss of aggregate strength. Continuous vehicle pressure over time can cause subgrade soils to migrate into the aggreate base. This significantly reduces the effective aggregate thickness, destroying the road support and reducing roadway performance and life.
